Engineering Geology for Reporting Aggregates

Aggregates, which serve as essential construction raw materials including those used in cement production, primarily consist of crushed stone, gravel, and sand. The paper is aimed to emphasize the significance of engineering geology studies in resource and reserve reporting on aggregates in accordance with international reporting standards. The anticipated quality of rocks utilized in various applications such as cement production, concrete, asphalt, embankment material and railroad aggregate can vary based on their designated use. Many quarry sites exhibit rapid changes in parameters for instance rock composition, texture, presence of organic material and shells, structural characteristics impacting rock quality, diverse weathering types and their effects, as well as the presence of hazardous substances linked to rock origins. Therefore, conducting engineering geological studies plays a crucial role in determining variations in rock quality and ensuring accurate resource and reserve reporting for aggregates. As a result, the paper highlights the necessity of conducting engineering geological studies at quarry locations.
