In Vitro and in Vivo Evaluation Tools of SARS-CoV-2 Antiviral Drugs

摘要

We have outlined the in vitro and preclinical methods for the assessment of the therapeutic properties of compounds against SARS-CoV2 in this chapter. Various criteria, which should be considered before selecting appropriate models, have been underlined. Recent updates and utilities of biophysical assays for the preliminary evaluation of the antiviral effects of any compounds have been discussed. Several cell culture systems, both primary and cell lines, have been studied for SARS-CoV2 studies, hence parameters required for the selection of suitable cell culture systems for antiviral studies are discussed. Similarly, several animal models have been studied and are available for preclinical trials, hence parameters required for the selection of the in vivo models have been discussed in this chapter. Precise quantification of the virus is critical to estimate the impact of antiviral drugs, hence methods for quantifications have also been described here.
