An Empirical Study on the Evolution of China’s Urban Labor Market Segmentation: Confirmation by Data from Various Sources

  • Ying Chen

摘要

This chapter is an empirical analysis of most data sources on the evolution from segmentation to integration in China’s labor market. Here, we use the large survey datasets from Chips (2002) and CGSS (2006) to test for the existence and endogeneity of the duality using the switching regression model and also verify the barrier effect of the double duality in terms of labor mobility. Then, referring to the methods of constructing a segmentation index by Orr (1997) and Zhang Zhaoshi (2009a), we use OLS estimation and a quantile regression model to test for the degree of segmentation and changes of the double duality in China’s labor market as a whole and by industry.
