Comparison Study of Typical Landslides in Hong Kong and Shenzhen
摘要
With the rapid development of both Shenzhen and Hong Kong, due to the great increment of the large population, more and more infrastructures and buildings are located near hilly terrains, which usually involve a concentration of man-made slopes and retaining walls. As a result, more landslides will occur during extreme rainstorms over these two areas. Many typical landslides both in Hong Kong and Shenzhen are presented in this study. The landslide mechanism is summarized and discussed. Typical landslides in Hong Kong and Shenzhen have been reviewed and their relationships will be established and discussed. By comparing these typical landslides that occurred in both Hong Kong and Shenzhen, it is found that as both cities have similar geological history, the landslides in these two areas are quite similar. However, due to the differences in political systems, technical standards and development stages, the landslides in these two areas also have obvious differences. From the view of landslide risk management, Hong Kong has done much better than Shenzhen, thus, much work needs to be conducted in Shenzhen in future to prevent serious landslides from occurring in Shenzhen.
