摘要

This study aims to investigate the major challenges and countermeasures concerning the environmental health of the Yoshinogawa River in Japan. Through field surveys and literature reviews, we identified several positive aspects, including dedicated efforts to maintain water quality, manage river facilities, protect the natural ecosystem, and use dams for water supply and flood control. However, significant challenges require urgent attention, including flood and storm surge disasters, the degradation of river management infrastructure, dam-induced sediment accumulation, and the sustainable conservation of water quality and ecological systems. Recommended countermeasures include enhancing flood management approaches, establishing efficient sediment management techniques, optimizing water pollution control measures, and promoting ecological preservation through comprehensive surveys, habitat restoration, and active community engagement. To effectively address future challenges in the Yoshinogawa River basin, fostering collaboration among residents, government bodies, river management authorities, related organizations, and all other stakeholders is of paramount importance.
