Research Status and Future Research Direction of Soil Sample Disturbance

In the process of engineering geological investigation, test of soil sample is a key link to provide accurate calculation index for designers. However, soil disturbance is an unavoidable problem while sampling, which may result in poor estimates of geotechnical parameters, leading to potentially significant and costly design errors. Comprehensive research of the soil sample disturbance is essential and has been going on for many years. This paper firstly made a summary on the research of soil disturbance, which mainly includes the influence of disturbance on soil parameters, the quantitative evaluation index and corresponding classification of disturbance, the pretreatment method of disturbed samples. Based on the review, the paper furthermore raised some considerations and provided new ideas to hopefully advance the research of sample disturbance, which promisingly promote the development of engineering geological investigation.
