Medical Record Department (MRD)

The Medical Record Department (MRD) is a systematic documentation of a patient’s medical history and current treatment. It helps in planning future patient care, facilitating communication among healthcare professionals, and protecting legal interests. The MRD should be located within the hospital in a low activity area, not necessarily in direct patient access. It must include entry and reception, receipt, compilation desk/sorting, indexing/coding, statistical analysis, computer lab, file/register storage, dictation room/cubicles, transcription room, photocopy/printing area, record scanning room, binding room, waste holding area, store, administrative area, and public utility space.
