A Case Study on the Practices of Research Data Management by the Researchers of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati
摘要
Research data management (RDM) has led to a scope for library professionals through which they can support researchers during the course of the research work apart from their conventional role in archiving the output of research. The present study explores the data management practices of the researchers of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati which is a premier institute ranked 41 globally in the ‘Research citation for faculty’ category and overall, 395th rank in the QS World University Rankings 2022. It was ranked 7th among the best engineering institutions in the country in 2022 as per the NIRF ranking. An insight into these existing data management practices would help to identify the local requirements while planning data management services. Textual data was the most common format of data generated by the researchers. The study reveals that most researchers do not share data and the most common inhibiting factor for sharing data is the concern of data being misused or misinterpreted. The majority of the researchers expressed the necessity of data management services.
