Smart Phone Usage Pattern by the Engineering College Faculty and Students in Hyderabad: Telangana

The study provides an insight on use of smart phone by the engineering college faculty and Students in Hyderabad. The study investigates the use and usage pattern of smart phones among engineering college faculty and students. This study focuses on mobile generation’s smart phone usage which has been insufficiently described in the previous similar studies. The study reveals that the respondent’s 42.03% (116) respondents out of total 276 respondents who use the smart phone said they download full text for further reading and archiving purposes. Followed by 23.91% (66) respondents said they read full text on the topics by using smart phones. About 16.30% (45) respondents said they use smart phone to download and print the information they search and store for fulfilling their information needs. 12.68% (35) respondents said they use smart phone to read the abstracts. A marginal number of respondents, i.e. 5.07% (14), said they use smart phone to read only titles of various resources that are available in the library. Smart phones are used to get authentic information, i.e. 81.82% (189). Smart phones are using 47.83% (132) respondents to use title as search element. User’s rankings on impact of smart phone on libraries show that, i.e. 42.03% (116), respondents who are using smart phone ranked 1 to the quality of their research work are improved significantly.
