Professional Competencies of Select Academic Librarians in Laguna, Philippines: A Preliminary Study
摘要
Academic libraries are highly dependent on their environment, parent institution, and users. The academic librarian’s role is essential for the success of the HEI in the teaching–learning process. Continued development and training about the professional competencies of librarians are needed to enhance how they manage information resources, services, tools, and technologies. This study examines the level of professional competencies of select academic librarians in Laguna, Philippines. This study identifies the competence level of academic librarians as to how they respond quickly to the dynamic demands of the HEIs. The pilot-tested questionnaire focuses on the four domains of professional competencies based on the Philippines National Competency-Based Standards for Librarians (NCBSL). Results showed that select academic librarians meet the library professional’s standards and competencies.
