The aim of the present paper is to examine the use of the major social networking tools in academic libraries in India with special focus in University Libraries. Since in today’s IT world very few students like to physically venture to a library, hence the social networking tools can serve as a strong communication medium between the librarians and students such that it will serve the students better and will prove beneficial in solving their academic problems pertaining to their studies. A survey was conducted among randomly selected students studying in various Arts and Social Sciences courses in University of Delhi. These users of Delhi University Library System (DULS) were subjected to both open and closed ended questions in a short questionnaire. The survey revealed that social networking can be an effective method by which libraries can intervene to reach for students opinions and provide them with the service that promises to keep their privacy protected and at the same time cater to the needs of students belonging to various subject backgrounds and courses fulfilled and up to brim.
