The essential role of librarians has always been to acquire, store, and provide information to users. Still, in the present Internet era the, librarians have to work as an information specialist and meet the changing needs of digital users. This may require them to adopt new techniques, processes, and services in their library system. This paper aims to discuss an overview of changing roles of librarians in the digital environment. It emphasizes on the different roles and responsibilities of library and information professionals. The digital age has the infinite potentiality to import technologies and social media facilities into library services. The library professional has been facing challenges of managing hybrid resources, and equally, there are “here today and gone tomorrow” types of services and products that the library should maintain. User needs are also changing as more and more young users acquire technical knowledge and discover sufficient skills to provide enhanced point-to-point services. This paper intends to provide a brief overview of available information e-resources and, at the same time changing role of libraries and information service, providers cum librarians in the digital era.
