Promoting Circular Economy in the Garment and Textile Industry by Developing Sustainable Fibers Production in Vietnam: A Case Study at Bao Lan Textile

The clothing and textile industry is considered one of the most polluting industries in the world, it has a significant impact on the environment and is characterized by high resource consumption and waste generation. This article presents a case study at Bao Lan Textiles in Vietnam to investigate the potential of developing sustainable fibers production as a strategy to promote a circular economy in the garment and textile industry. The purpose of the study was to identify and evaluate the feasibility of producing sustainable fibers such as pineapple leaf fiber as end fabric with a similar hand feel as cotton. This will provide insights into the opportunities and challenges arising from the greening of the garment and textile industry in Vietnam. The results of this study can help textile companies and policymakers adopt circular economy principles, promote sustainable practices, and reduce negative environmental impacts. Overall, this research contributes to the existing body of knowledge on sustainable fibers production and provides practical approaches for the Vietnamese textile industry to transition toward a circular economy, thereby promoting a more sustainable and environmentally friendly industry.
