Antigens and Antibodies

Substances that can be recognized by the B-cell immunoglobulin receptor (BCR) or by the T-cell receptor (TCR) after binding to the MHC are called antigens. Antibodies, the immunoglobulins that bind to antigens, are secreted by B cells post-activation. B cells are activated by antigenic recognition through the BCR to produce antibodies that bind specifically to antigens for the purpose of neutralizing and clearing antigens.
