5.4 Low-noise Amplifiers

In this chapterLow noise amplifier we will first give a short overview of the methods for noise minimization in electronic amplifiers and systems. That will allow understanding the goals implemented in the low-noise amplifier design. Then we will make a review of discrete and integrated amplifier circuits being feasible for minimization of the noise they produce. Of, course, the underlying procedures that will be explained are accommodated to the circuit structure and the technology implemented. Both single stage and multistage amplifiers will be considered. Low-noise amplifiers based on different technologies (including hybrid) will be visited such a bipolar, JFET, MOSFET, and MESFET. Whenever possible complete design procedure will be outlined. For some circuits Spice simulation will be recommended.
