摘要

This chapter sheds light on the adverse consequences of excessive and unwanted sound on both the environment and human well-being. It delves into various dimensions of noise pollution, encompassing environmental, indoor, occupational, and transport noise. The measurement and levels of noise pollution are thoroughly examined, along with its effects on physical health, cognitive function, sleep patterns, mental well-being, communication, social interactions, and the environment. Noise pollution is associated with numerous physical health issues, including hearing loss and cardiovascular problems. It also disrupts cognitive function, sleep, and mental well-being, leading to a decline in overall quality of life. Additionally, noise pollution impairs communication, hampers social interactions, and negatively impacts the environment. This chapter presents potential solutions to mitigate noise pollution, ranging from regulatory measures to the implementation of noise barriers and insulation. Improved urban planning, public awareness, education, and technological innovations also play pivotal roles in reducing noise pollution. By prioritizing efforts to combat noise pollution, we can pave the way for a quieter and more harmonious future, significantly enhancing our overall well-being and quality of life.
