Sustainable Adaptive Reuse of Interiors in Iraq

The theory has been developed that preserving the cultural heritage of the region helps to provide socio-cultural and economic benefits. Preserving the precious look of the past not only gives the community a personality but also encourages the younger generation to create sustainable structures, so it needs to be preserved for future generations. The way to reuse cultural heritage is not only to reduce the cost of expanding the city, but to add historical significance to the new projects instead of demolition of these places. The theory of legacy adaptive recycling involves modifying essential structures which have scope of being sustainable. Reuse is all about using structures so that the construction contains minimal materials, such as reducing labor costs, resources, and working hours. In many cities, the recycling of historic buildings is an integral part of our rehabilitation strategy. While Iraq is experiencing constant wars and aggression, it is a source of income for local governments as there are many buildings of unknown history for sustainable reconstruction of these areas. Recycling can turn these buildings into tourist attractions, libraries, and culturally government buildings. The aim of this paper is to determine effective strategies for creating sustainable values for heritage interiors in Mosul, Iraq.
