A Sustainable Approach Toward the Sanitation for Urban Poor in India: A Case of Bangalore
摘要
Urbanization is a dynamic process that is constantly changing as the urban population is growing, creating a greater demand for housing, jobs, amenities, infrastructure, and so on. After COVID-19 was lifted, there was a significant shift in population demographics. Many people who have lost their jobs are migrating to cities in search of work. This movement of people from rural to urban areas increases the urban poor number of individuals and raises all basic demands and services. In addition to food, houses, water, sanitation, and other basic needs of human, a clean and hygienic environment is a major priority for the surroundings and a healthy life. Urban sanitation faces many challenges by urban poor people in India. This could be achieved through proper sanitation and hygienic toilets and by implementing the SWATCH Bharat program. The high priority of proper sanitation is given to the developing cities, commercial hubs, and metropolitan cities during the planning. In contrast, there are low cost sanitation systems and without a proper drainage system in slum areas, leaving the urban poor and slum dwellers with an unhygienic environment. Therefore, we need to develop a sanitation plan for the developing cities keeping the urban poor in mind. Thus, this research paper will highlight the major issues as well as concerns facing by the urban poor in India, especially in the Bangalore city, and the sustainable solution that should have taken toward these issues with respect to make a healthy environment for the urban poor people.
