The International Energy Agency (IEA) has proposed the NZE 2050 scenario, which calls for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Achieving this will require major changes in the energy sector. Renewable energy sources such as solar PV and wind power, which have become increasingly popular in recent years, effectively reduce \(\mathrm {CO}_{2}\) emissions \(\mathrm {CO}_2\) emission. However, other sources must compensate for their output fluctuations.
