Forming processes are used to produce the desired shape and size through the plastic deformation of the materials. Plastic deformation takes place by means of a slip mechanism. The overall usefulness of metals is largely due to the ease by which they can be formed into useful shapes. The deformation takes place due to changes in thickness or cross sections of the workpiece.
