Machining Operations

Machining processes are used to remove unwanted material from a workpiece in order to give it proper shape and size and the required finish. This is accomplished by using various machine tools such as lathe, shaper, milling cutter, etc. Lathe is the oldest and most common machine tool, which removes material by rotating the workpiece against a single-point cutter. A number of operations can be performed on a lathe to produce the desired shape and size.
