Design of Torque Balance Controller for Coaxial BLDC Motor Using Hierarchical Sliding Mode Control Applied for Underwater Vehicle

This paper presents a hierarchical sliding mode control algorithm-based torque balance controller applied for a coaxial BLDC motor, which is used to drive a contra-rotating propeller in underwater vehicle applications. Several available strategies are synthesized and analyzed to provide the proposed strategy for controlling two variables of speed and torque contemporaneously based on using the variable DC-link voltage control technique. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is evaluated through MATLAB/Simulink simulation results in comparison to the existing controllers. This simulation result demonstrates that the proposed controller is efficient and feasible in order to apply to the practical system.
