Citrus fruits, such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruits, are known for their appealing taste and vibrant colors. However, beyond their culinary value, citrus fruits possess remarkable pharmacological properties that have been extensively studied. These fruits are rich in bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, carotenoids, phenolic acids, and vitamin C, contributing to their various health benefits. The pharmacological properties of citrus fruits encompass antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antimicrobial, cardioprotective, and neuroprotective effects. Citrus bioactive compounds have demonstrated potential in preventing and managing chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disorders, obesity, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Moreover, citrus fruits positively affect immune function, digestive health, skin health, and cognitive function.
