A Comparative Survey on Histogram Equalization Techniques for Image Contrast Enhancement

Image enhancement is the fundamental part of digital image processing. Contrast enhancement techniques are widely used for enhancing features in low light images and bring out hidden details and information. Due to the poor visual quality of low light images, it is quite challenging to enhance low gray level features under noisy environment. The most versatile technique used for this purpose is Histogram equalization. In this paper, a comparative survey has been presented to analyse various histogram equalization techniques applied for enhancing the contrast of digital images. The performance analysis has been carried out on variety of images on the basis of different evaluation metric parameters.
