Social Justice and Digital Citizenship of Chinese Young People
摘要
This chapter examines digital citizenship practices of Chinese young people using a social justice lens. Drawing on the three-dimensional framework of social justice theory and the arguments for its contextual approach, it discusses the value of social justice for digital citizenship of Chinese young people both from within and without. From within, it illustrates how social justice has been an underlining theme of digital citizenship practices of Chinese young people. This is demonstrated by the digital political participation of Chinese young people and the Chinese Internet culture through which they endorse and identify with social justice values. From without, this chapter discusses the need to acknowledge the citizenship constituted by the digital practices of Chinese young people within the field of citizenship studies. It is argued that this approach enriches the imaginations and understandings of citizenship in today’s post-modern and globalized world.
