摘要

For transnational Latinx youth growing up between multiple nations, their sense of belonging, identity, and participation may not align with national identity or citizenship. This chapter examines the experiences of transnational Latinx youth to highlight the limitations of traditional conceptions of citizenship based on national assimilation and affiliation, and to suggest the range of ways Latinx youth are creating new practices of identity and belonging that transcend national borders. We review qualitative research on the citizenship of transnational Latinx youth in multiple contexts, highlighting three themes: racialized processes of exclusion in immigrant-receiving countries, young people’s practices of transnational belonging, and activism from the space in between.
