CRISPR-Based Approach: A Way Forward to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR)-based approach has emerged as a powerful tool in genetic engineering, offering unprecedented precision and efficiency in manipulating DNA. This paper explores the potential of CRISPR technology as a way forward to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By harnessing the capabilities of CRISPR, we can address pressing global challenges related to agriculture, healthcare, and environmental conservation. In the realm of agriculture, CRISPR has the potential to enhance crop yields, develop disease-resistant varieties, and contribute to sustainable agriculture and food security (SDG 2). In healthcare, CRISPR-based interventions hold promise for treating genetic diseases and improving overall health outcomes (SDG 3). Additionally, CRISPR technology can contribute to environmental conservation by mitigating climate change impacts and protecting biodiversity (SDGs 13 and 15). However, ethical considerations and responsible deployment of CRISPR technology are paramount to ensure equitable access, prevent misuse, and address potential societal implications. This paper discusses that embracing the CRISPR-based approach, while navigating the associated challenges, can pave the way for a more sustainable and inclusive future, aligned with the vision of the SDGs.
