The Suitability of Adapting Certification Tools for the Moroccan Context

Morocco is currently launching a sustainable transition to advance the built environment and its systems. This transition concerns multiple fields such as urban planning and construction. Indeed, a thermal regulation was established to regulate and minimize building sector energy consumption and to predict the projections for future urban consumption. Accordingly, urban planning reforms were made to achieve a significant socioeconomic impact in this sector through valid solutions and initiatives. Also, various methodologies for building sustainable assessments were developed and applied to the Moroccan context. This study aims to seek the suitability of existing sustainability assessment tools in the Moroccan context. Available general data of the Moroccan context is analyzed. Building sustainability assessment tools indicators were gathered from seven international tools. LEED, WELL, BREAM, DGNB, Green Star, HQE, and PRS are chosen. A comparative study of tools’ sub-indicators required data, and Moroccan available data is conducted. The results showcased the suitability of DGNB, LEED, and HQE tools as the data is mostly available. DGNB has 38.89% of available data for the Moroccan context. LEED has 36%, and HQE 28.57%. BREAM has the least available data with 11.11%.
