Effect of Variation in Pause Times Over MANET Routing Protocols

The Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) are self-organizing and self-configuring networks that are formed dynamically without any existing infrastructure. These networks provide a wide range of advantages over traditional infrastructure-based networks since their nature supports deployment in remote and/or hazardous areas. Due to the inherent dynamic topology, routing protocols become very important for maintaining link and data reliability in MANET environments. The pause time in a MANET can refer to the period of time between when one node in the network sends information and when another node receives it. This pause time is typically affected by the distance between the two nodes, the number of hops the data packet must travel, and any obstructions (e.g., walls) that would interfere with the signal. MANETs are designed to be self-configuring and self-healing, so these pause times can vary as the network adapts to changing conditions. The performance is analyzed over four QoS performance metrics: throughput, goodput, packet received, and received rate. The results show the performance of MANET routing protocols over different pause time, i.e., 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 s. The results showed 27% more throughput value with DSR, 27.6% more goodput with DSR, 66.2% more received rate with DSR, and 74% more packet received with DSR.
