Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Nuclear Medicine

In recent years, nuclear medicine has witnessed a significant transformation with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. AI is used to improve nuclear medicine methodology and enhance nuclear medicine image analysis and diagnostic capabilities. Regarding methodology, AI is used for attenuation correction, scatter correction, artefact-free image reconstruction, and image segmentation of PET images to improve image quality with a shorter acquisition time and lower radiation dose and to obtain lesion information. In image analysis and diagnosis, AI is used more in tumours, including automatic delineation, analysis, and lesion differentiation diagnosis, to achieve more accurate diagnosis in a shorter time and assist clinical decision-making while reducing clinical workload. In addition, AI has some applications in diagnosing neurological and cardiovascular diseases.
