Extracellular Vesicle-Based Clinical Trials

Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs), particularly those derived from stem cells, are considered a new therapeutic alternative for various diseases for which there is an unmet clinical need. To date, many types of sEVs have been evaluated to determine their therapeutic potential in preclinical and clinical studies. This chapter summarizes and identifies scalable isolation methods for stem cell-derived sEVs and the therapeutic applications of sEVs in clinical trials. The features and problems that hamper the clinical translation of sEVs are also debated.
