Factors Influencing the Performance of the Coffee Supply Chain—The Case Study of Vietnam

  • Thi Thuy Hanh Nguyen

摘要

Vietnam is the world’s second-largest coffee producer and exporter after Brazil and the largest exporter of Robusta coffee in Asia. Coffee is one of the nation’s agricultural commodities in Vietnam. However, various problems in coffee supply chains threaten Vietnamese coffee products’ competitiveness. These issues have significantly affected the coffee supply chain’s performance, the quality of coffee, and Vietnamese coffee competitiveness, decreasing stakeholders’ profits in the coffee supply chain. As a result, to investigate the determinants impacting the performance of Vietnam’s supply chain, this paper conducts online questionnaire surveys and personal interviews with the primary coffee supply chain stakeholders. This study was done in Kontum, one of Vietnam’s most critical coffee-producing provinces. According to the case study’s findings, the key factors are production cost, logistics cost, information technology, and government policy. Furthermore, this paper suggests some recommendations for improving the performance of the coffee supply chain in Vietnam.
