摘要

Manufacturing industries face formidable challenges in reducing power consumption and maintaining product quality simultaneously in machining process. This is significant to remain competitive globally, comply with governmental regulations, and deal with rising electricity prices and customer awareness. Multi-objective optimization techniques have become an essential tool to deal with conflicting responses simultaneously. This chapter aims to simultaneously optimize power consumption and surface roughness in turning process. This is achieved by (i) developing statically significant regression models using the backward elimination technique; (ii) generating Pareto solutions using WSM and NSGA-II techniques for rough as well as finish turning operations. Results are compared with existing literature to validate the developed models. The scientific value of the present work lies in proposing a methodology to generate Pareto solutions that depend on the weight assigned to the response functions that would assist a practitioner in better decision-making depending on the managerial requirements.
