Hiatus (“Tuo Wen”) can also be called “Duo Wen” or “Que Wen” in Chinese, which refers to the missing words during the copying and circulation of ancient books. This chapter focuses on the causes of hiatus in Dunhuang manuscripts and the methods used by readers to fill the hiatus.
