Enabling the Sustainable Urban Future of Smart Cities with Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence

The rapid growth of the global urban population has led to various economic, environmental, and social challenges. Smart cities have emerged as a solution to address these issues and provide intelligent services for improved quality of life. Disruptive technologies like blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) play a significant role in implementing smart cities. Blockchain ensures secure and transparent data flow, while AI facilitates data processing and analysis. By leveraging these technologies, smart cities can enhance decision-making processes and improve management efficiency. Bibliometric analysis reveals the prominent authors, institutions, countries, and journals in research related to these topics. The analysis also identifies five clusters of research trends, including improving security through prediction analysis in machine learning, addressing challenges in management systems, developing new networks with blockchain and IoT, improving transportation and smart mobility, and intrusion and attack detection on the internet using deep learning. These research trends highlight the integration of blockchain, AI, and other technologies to create sustainable and efficient smart cities. It proposes a new business model for companies in the transportation sector. Findings show that is relevant to educate the population and the workforce in using new technologies and sharing economy to support the environment, using new platform systems with cryptocurrencies and the support of governments.
