PQH-WireGuard: Post-quantum Hybrid Cryptography-Based WireGuard VPN Protocol

摘要

In this paper, we propose a hybrid cryptography approach to integrate post-quantum security into Virtual Private Network (VPN) protocols. Our approach utilizes the Kyber key encapsulation mechanism (KEM) in combination with the WireGuard VPN protocol to encrypt the public key before exchanging it with the server. We conducted a security analysis of our proposed approach and compared it to classical VPN protocols like OpenVPN and WireGuard without post-quantum security. Our findings demonstrate that the proposed hybrid approach provides a higher level of security against attacks by quantum computers. The performance evaluation of our approach demonstrates that it performs comparably to the original WireGuard protocol in terms of computational overhead and latency while outperforming OpenVPN in terms of key generation and encryption speed.
