Exploring the Interconnectedness of Globalisation and Conflict in Mozambique

Mozambique is presently facing a high-intensity intra-state conflict, which significantly undermines the peace and economic development of the country. The effects and consequences of this conflict have been amplified by the process of globalisation. This paper sought to explore the interconnectedness of globalisation and conflict in northern Mozambique, also attempting to come up with some recommendations for the resolution of such conflict. It applies the liberalism and structuralism theories to establish the interface between globalisation and conflict in Mozambique. This study has adopted a desktop approach with over-reliance on secondary resources such as already published journals and online materials to weave its perspectives. The study concludes that globalisation has directly influenced the conflict in northern Mozambique. The study also reveals that the emergence of the violent conflict in northern Mozambique was mediated through global and transnational networks. The study concluded that globalisation has proved destabilising the northern province of Mozambique and as such the province experienced the dark side of globalisation, which creates conditions for the prolonged conflict in the Cabo Delgado province.
