Correlation

By ‘correlation’, this book primarily refers to temporal correlation. This chapter defines the auto- and cross-correlation functions and presents their applications in signal processing. The cross-correlation function is compared to the convolution operator and from this a matched filter can be designed. Both analog and discrete-time correlation is treated, and computer implementations of correlation algorithms (such as ‘circular’ correlation) are discussed.
