Natural Disasters and Indonesian Foreign Policy Making

Natural disasters are key drivers in Indonesian foreign policy and are entangled with internal and external interests. Internally, Indonesia has experienced several regime changes, therefore, it is necessary to identify who the foreign policy makers are, what institutions are involved, and their respective interests in the involvement of foreign militaries in natural disasters. Externally, the international environment is one of the key determinants in evaluating how the government views outside powers in shaping the decision-making process regarding the involvement of multinational forces in disaster response.
