Historical Dialectology of Persian and the Dialects of the Fārs Province

This paper challenges the idea of a genealogical development of languages and highlights the importance of the areal perspective. The peculiarity of defining a language in a diachronicDiachrony/diachronic perspective is discussed, and the analysis of perfect formations in varietiesVariety in the Fārs province is used to suggest a new view on historical development of Persian.
