Bāseri Dialect of Fārs

One of the main concerns of linguists and more specifically dialectologists is identifying, studying, and recording of indigenous dialectsDialect(s) as a part of the cultural heritage of different societies. The present study, relying on a descriptive synchronic approach introduces Bāseri dialectDialect(s) of Fārs as one of the southwestern Iranian Persian dialectsPersianPersian dialects. In this article, first the socio- historical features of Bāseri tribe of Fārs are introduced and then the linguistic features of this dialectDialect(s) are presented. Consequently, the phonological, semantic, and syntactic domains of the mentioned dialectDialect(s) are mentioned. The data used in the study included ten hours of audiotaped performances of unlearned or illiterate male and female speakers of the Bāseri tribe. The results of data analysis revealed minor differences between Bāseri dialectDialect(s) of Fārs and the standard PersianStandard Persian (SP) language from phonological and syntactic perspectives, while the semantic differences between these two language varietiesVariety were significant. The findings of the present study can be used by linguists, dialectologists, and teachers of Persian to speakers of other languages.
