Wireless Power Transfer Application for Healthcare and Treatments

  • Yuji Tanabe

摘要

This chapter explores the potential of far-field wireless powering for sensor and implantable devices, anticipating its expansion in the 6G era. Similar to how wireless power transfer replaced Ethernet with WiFi, a wire-free digital world opens up countless opportunities to build sensor networks. For instance, in building management, wireless power transfer systems facilitate environment sensing, air conditioning control, and reduced power consumption. Moreover, research has confirmed that monitoring the environment, regulating air conditioning, and creating a comfortable space can effectively reduce people's stress levels, as indicated by amylase activity values. Concurrently, implantable devices play a crucial role in medical applications. Given the reliance on tumor resection and postoperative chemotherapy or X-irradiation for current clinical brain tumor treatment, the development of brain-machine interfaces that enable continuous on-demand brain tumor treatment becomes paramount. This chapter delves into how the near-infrared surface plasma properties of gold nanostars can enable precise wireless treatment of deep brain tumors in freely behaving mice.
