Bioinformatics and In Silico Stimulations

The development of genomics and high-throughput experimental technologies such as sequencing creates the need for the use of computers to store and analyse the large amounts of data generated. Therefore, bioinformatics was developed as a discipline. It is associated with sequence databases and sequence analysis—thus, a computational science using biological data. Although there are several definitions and views on bioinformatics, most researchers now use the term ‘bioinformatics’ as a generic term for both the storage and maintenance of biological data and the use of computational data analysis and algorithms in studies related to functional genomics. Bioinformatics involves several scientific fields including computer science, mathematics, statistics, informatics, physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine.
