摘要

A neurological examination of every patient admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) is a must, even if not conducted in detail. However, patients admitted with neurological problems must undergo detailed examination and assessment. A good clinical history and examination leads the way to an accurate diagnosis, relevant investigations, and proper management. A neurological examination in the ICU includes a general examination, mental status assessment, examination of cranial nerves (CNs), and assessment of motor, sensory, and reflex functions. Assessment of a patient in a coma is a bit tricky and needs a systematic approach. Simultaneously, management needs to be initiated while assessing the function.
