Clinical trials play a crucial role in evaluating the safety and efficacy of new drugs and treatments. Ensuring the quality and integrity of clinical trial data is essential for regulatory approval and patient safety. The quality by design (QbD) approach encompasses a systematic and proactive strategy to identify and mitigate potential risks to quality throughout the clinical trial process. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the QbD approach in relation to clinical trials.The chapter begins by discussing the principles and key elements of QbD, including the identification of critical quality attributes (CQAs) and critical process parameters (CPPs). It highlights the importance of a comprehensive risk assessment to identify potential sources of variability and their impact on trial outcomes.
