Geographic Information Systems for Aviation Incident Management: Application to Kuwait International Airport
摘要
GIS is a geospatial mapping system that allows users to import geographical and descriptive data and display it in interactive 2D and 3D maps. The technology has found widespread applications in several industries and is becoming increasingly adopted in airports for various uses, including obstacle monitoring, incident management, aircraft monitoring, operational planning, and facility management. This report focuses on the application of GIS in airport safety and security incident management by considering its implementation and impact at Kuwait International Airport. The introduction of Esri’s ArcGIS application at the airport has resulted in efficient facility management and improved incident response by enhancing stakeholder communication, availing clear response and evacuation procedures, and increasing response times. To build on these gains, it is recommended that the GIS solution should be rolled out in the upcoming terminal at the airport and its functionality expanded by availing more accurate data.
