  • Duyen Thi My Thieu

摘要

Vietnam’s urbanization process has been characterized by a rapid increase in the quantity and scale of new urban areas (NUAs). Aside from major cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Hue city has experienced significant change through the expanded urban area [1, 2]. It is largely shaped by the development of new residential areas, particularly NUA projects. Furthermore, the development of the corresponding infrastructure system can be regarded as a critical condition of the NUAs in specific and of the city in general. In this case, social infrastructure plays an important role in providing and meeting people’s basic daily needs [3, 4]. In practice, however, are they given effective distribution? The study's focus on the accessibility of NUAs residents to social infrastructure is on assessing the type of facilities and distance. Data is collected from the actual distribution of social infrastructures and NUAs in Hue city and combined processing and visualizing by using Google Earth and GIS. The study specifically looks into (1) the coverage of basic types of social infrastructure and (2) people's accessible distance to infrastructure (non-motorized modes of transportation). This study can also be viewed as a foundation for future research into perfecting the criteria for assessing accessibility in urban planning.
