Cold War Echoes and Shifting Movements: Russia-West Tensions and International Migration

  • Pravati Saha

摘要

This chapter addresses the complex interplay between contemporary geopolitical tensions and global migration patterns. Drawing on realist theories of international relations, particularly the works of Mearsheimer, the chapter examines the impact of tense relations between Russia, Ukraine, and the West on international migration. By analyzing the geopolitical postures, security concerns, and regional conflicts arising from this rivalry, the chapter offers valuable insights into the complex dynamics of migration in a world characterized by great power rivalry. This chapter goes beyond the existing literature and uniquely explores how the Cold War era influences migration decisions today. By adopting an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates insights from migration studies, including transnationalism, the chapter reveals the interconnected nature of contemporary migration, which is influenced by political and economic factors.
