The purpose of this study is to examine the prevalence rates, dynamics, and risk factors associated with DMST in the Global North using a mixed methods approach. By analyzing quantitative data on human trafficking and qualitative findings from academic sources spanning the period from 2000 to 2023, the study uncovers prevalence rates and identifies socioeconomic factors such as poverty, homelessness, and family instability as important contributors to victim vulnerability. In addition, childhood trauma, substance abuse, and exploitative relationships with traffickers exacerbate vulnerability to DMST. The findings emphasize the urgent need for comprehensive measures to effectively address this problem. Legislative reforms, community education initiatives, and trauma-informed approaches are recommended to protect vulnerable populations from exploitation.

摘要
