Pressure Swing Adsorption for Biomethane Production

Poor garbage disposal’s adverse impact on the environment and high long-term costs have forced the industry to recognize that there is a chance to turn this problem into a profitable and sustainable endeavor. The other gases found in biogas, excluding methane, are regarded as contaminants. Pressure swing adsorption (PSA), which offers a sustainable and effective way to upgrade biogas by eliminating contaminants including carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and moisture, is currently growing as a key technology for the production of biomethane. PSA is a promising technique for large-scale biomethane production. The article focuses on the production of biogas, the PSA process, the pressure swing adsorption for upgrading biogas, the size of pressure swing adsorption, and methane enrichment. The study highlights the advantages of PSA, including low energy consumption, high methane recovery rates, and the methane enrichment using different types of adsorption. Additionally, we discuss the challenges and potential improvements in PSA technology, such as optimizing adsorbent materials and cycle times to enhance performance and reduce costs. The results indicate that PSA has significant potential for large-scale biomethane production, contributing to renewable energy solutions and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
